It is difficult to describe how much education can affect a family in India.
The Child Sponsorship Scheme is simple - you donate £20 a month to give a child and their family a hope for the future…
India is undergoing huge changes, we have all read about the tremendous growth in the economy, emerging wealth and opportunities. India boasts 200 million middle class people but change for the poor is slow and rising prices are having a huge impact, it’s a time of transition but children and young people still need our help.
UCCI provide school places for 2000 children aged 5 – 18. More than 1000 of them come from particularly poor and disadvantaged families and live on site in a number of school hostels. Each child is carefully vetted to ensure the most needy find places in the CFC has been involved for 25 years in a partnership with United Christian Church of India (UCCI).
At the heart of our partnership is a sponsorship programme for children and young people from very poor families.
Through the education of one or more children, a whole family can experience an overall rise in quality of life. Education means an increase in job opportunities, more income and better access to healthcare. Girls who are educated beyond a basic level get married at an older age (16+ instead of 13+) and the life expectancy of their children increases dramatically.
Through individuals sponsoring children we are able to see this change happen.
However the most important thing is that our sponsorship actually creates the possibility of a child going to school! The social and economic background of the children often means the family prefer to get children working as young as possible – school is simply not a priority – sponsorship makes the difference!

If you are a UK taxpayer, by signing the Gift Aid declaration we can claim back the tax you have paid on your monthly gift. This is a great benefit to the project and is our main source to maintain existing buildings and build additional ones.
If do not wish to sponsor an individual child you can still support the work of UCCI by contributing to a central fund which aids in the purchase of school books, building maintenance, teacher and doctors salaries. This can be a one-off or regular gift.
We now have seen several generations of children pass through the schools. Some have very similar lives to their parents but most have much better opportunities. Many have found great jobs, business, nursing, teachers, accountants – dozens have completed further education or degrees all because somebody gave a regular amount – could that next somebody be you? It’s not a lot to change a child’s life forever!
